Anja Slijkhuis

My name is Anja Slijkhuis. I am a Dutch artist or color blender, also called supplier of joy and bliss!

I am painting tulips, all kinds of other flowers and a lot more. Tulips are one of my favorite themes.

My tulips symbolize spring, new life, growth, hope, nature and beauty. In the Netherlands, after the grey and rainy winter season, tulips promise a new beginning, a new season: “the sun is coming, let’s celebrate!”.

They radiate joy, cheer and happiness. The red tulip even stands for ‘perfect love’. I love to blow up my tulips and let the light shine in their petals. I like to show their beauty and vibration in all their assorted colors and types and portray their movement. Tulips stand for spring, new life, hope, new chances, cheer and joy. My tulips bloom always and everywhere, no matter what!

Since 2005 I have taken painting classes in Rotterdam, by Ann van der Meer in Atelier du Jardin.

Since 2021 I have moved to the beautiful countryside of Friesland in the north of the Netherlands, where Jaap van Dijk is my painting teacher.

I am working with acrylic paint as well as oil paint in my studio at home.

Of course I am leaving my comfort zone regularly, to paint all kinds of themes and subjects, like animals, still lives and lots of other themes. During my short trips and holidays, I am always taking many pictures of all my impressions of nature, buildings, gardens, animals or whatever, these photos are my infinite source of inspiration.
